How easily is the surface scratched, like from dirt, sand, or plants rubbing on it?
20" Clear Plastic Acrylic Light Globe with 8" Lip Neck
I am replacing a vintage terrarium globe that had a two part 20 inch clear plastic sphere that has yellowed and become very brittle and cracked. It was previously scratched on the inside from the planting soil and general plant terrarium upkeep. I am wanting to replace the globe with a new one, which doesn't have to be two parts, but I have not had any luck finding any 20 inch diameter ones in clear glass to avoid scratches. This is the closest thing I have been able to find.

Hi thank you for your question. Both polycarbonate and acrylic plastic types are prone to surface scratches as plastic is low on the Mohs Hardness Scale, Glass being a 5-6 where plastics like these globes are 3-4 so much softer and easier to scratch. I will note that acrylic is color stable and wont turn color to yellow over time like polycarbonate would. Although polycarbonate is more resistant to cracks and braking.
Thank you!
